DENOSA declares a dispute with VISTA Clinic on wage increase
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa has declared a dispute with VISTA Clinic on nurses annual wage increase and has referred the matter to The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) for adjudication.
Our initial demand was a 12% wage increase and we subsequently reduced that to 9 percent in attempt to reach an amicable agreement. The employer started with a mere 8 percent increase and is now currently standing at 8, 8 percent wage increase for Enrolled nurses and Nursing assistants.
We want to emphasise that we are rejecting in the strongest possible terms the revised 8, 8 percent by the employer. Nurses are already underpaid and overworked hence DENOSA is demanding market related salaries for them in order to keep up with the abnormal increase in the current cost of living, taking into account that most of these nurses depend on public transport and spend a quarter of their earnings getting to work.
DENOSA has however agreed with the employer on the 10% increase offered to Registered nurses, which is also aimed at addressing the issue of supply and demand and also the scarce skill.
