DENOSA Professional Institute (DPI) also presented at the research day where it invited the attendees to take part in the 3rd SA Nurses' Conference which will take place in February 2016 in Boksburg, to be hosted by the institute, which will provide a similar platform for nursing fratenity to present their research study to more than 1500 nurses.

Some of the research topics under study include: 'The role of reflective learning in Nursing Education' by Peggy Naicker; 'Child Development' by Dr Mulaudzi; 'The relationship between engagement and burnout amongst nursing educators in Gauteng' by Micaela Ali.

On Child Development, Dr Mulaudzi recommended that nurses be trained on assessment of child development using the IGMCD and that assessment of child development should be part if routine child care even beyond primary health care level.

The challenge whereby mothers don't take children to clinics for assessments and implications thereof was also discussed in detail by nurse professionals and academics. 'But caregivers prove to be quite knowledgeable about illnesses of children. The challenge is across, and it'a not only the mothers,' said Dr Mulaudzi.

DENOSA Provincial Organiser in Gauteng, Matshidiso Dipudi commended the study as it will improved the patient-care giver relationship, and also empower caregivers with knowledge.

Acting Chief Nursing Officer in Gauteng, Dr Petersen, promised to sell the research recommendations to the public health desk within the department.

Other topics included 'Unit Managers' role in improving nursing teamwork in a mental healthcare facility'; 'An evaluation of nurse educator's motivation and its impact on student performance at nursing colleges in Gauteng' by Jasmin Gassiep, and 'National Health Research Database' by Dr Ikalafeng.
