DENOSA-sponsored resolutions to form part of COSATU congress resolutions

The four-day COSATU 12th National Congress in Midrand has adopted all DENOSA-sponsored resolutions, with inputs from other affiliates.

DENOSA sponsored five critical resolutions to the congress which talk to health issues.

The resolutions, which were passed by DENOSA 7th National Congress in October 2014, were on:

-        2016 Local Government Elections

-        Primary Health Care for successful Implementation of NHI

-        Positioning Nursing Education in South Africa

-        Clamping the scourge of Non-Communicable Diseases

-        Violence directed to public servants in general and health workers and teachers in particular

The congress enriched theses resolutions with their inputs, either to expand them to talk to all workers first before focusing on public servants and health workers.

Where the resolutions talked to the need to hire more nurses, the congress amended and suggested that the talk more on the beefing up of resources, which will include human resources that talk to nurses as well.

On the resolution on positioning of nursing education, the congress also amended that the regulatory body for nursing should speed up the registration of community service nurses so that they get placed in clinical facilities sooner rather than later.
