By Sibongiseni Delihlazo

Nurses belonging to DENOSA joined thousands of other workers across different sectors in commemorating International Workers Day on 1 May. Various commemorations were held countrywide. The national celebration was held in Bloemfontein where thousands of workers took on a 4 Kilometer march to delivery memorandums to various employers.

Provincial celebrations were also staged. DENOSA national office bearers (NOBs) were deployed to represent COSATU in all celebrations countrywide. For example, DENOSA President, Simon Hlungwani, was deployed in Queenstown, DENOSA DENOSA 1st Deputy President, Modise Letsatsi, and General Secretary, Oscar Phaka, were deployed in Klerksdorp. Deputy General Secretary, Kwena Manamela, was deployed in Polokwane, while National Treasurer, Cookie Nkambule, was deployed in Gauteng where COSATU marched to JSE offices in Sandton to hand over a memorandum. Similar memorandums were handed over in other provinces like Cape Town where COSATU marched to Parliament.
