DENOSA President pays tribute to soccer legend Philemon Masinga.

DENOSA President, Simon Mlongani Hlungwani, paid a special tribute to Bafaka Bafana Soccer legend, Philemon 'Chippa' Masinga and hailed him as one of the forebears who opened doors for South African players abroad.

He paid tribute to Chippa at the DENOSA Free State Provincial Congress which is currently underway in Ventersburg in the Free State.

Hlungwani said Masinga was one of the path-finders and opened doors of South Africa to the world soon after admission of South Africa to the FIFA fold.

Masinga, whose funeral is currently underway at his home in Klerksdorp, would be remembered for his goal that qualified South Africa, the first country South of SubSaharan Africa, for the 1998 World Cup in France.

Hlungwani expressed sadness that, while Masinga played such a pivotal role for South Africa, he died poor while he remained a hero to millions abroad.

The congress continues.
