DENOSA takes serious exception to the Minister “Devils in white” comment

Media statement
Friday, 13 May 2016
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) strongly condemns what it views as a reckless usage of some words by Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, at the International Nurses Day celebration in Seshego yesterday.
When the Minister addressed International Nurses Day Celebration, he used the phrase “Devil in white”, in reference to nurses.  We view this as characterizing nurses as devils and we strongly condemn it. DENOSA fees it is irresponsible for anyone bestowed with executive authority to use such words.
Using such words creates an impression that he has passionate hatred for nurses of South Africa. It also has a potential to fuel hatred of nurses by society in general. Nurses are not the enemy of society. We condemn any attempt to create animosities within sectors of society.
Once more, we wish all nurses a happy ending of the International Nurses Week.
