DENOSA mourns the passing of its Western Cape Deputy Chairperson

Media statement
Monday, 05 September 2016
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) is saddened to confirm the passing on of its Western Cape Deputy Chairperson and DENOSA National Executive Committee (NEC) member, cde Marilyn Beukes on Saturday morning in a case of health emergency.
She was attending DENOSA Provincial Office Bearers (POBs) meeting in George in the Southern Cape, when she complained of head ache on Friday night.
DENOSA has lost one of the rare and fine breeds from its ranks whose outstandingly versatile leadership qualities had brought her to the level of every member and leader of DENOSA. She has grown through the leadership ranks of DENOSA as a shop steward. At the time of her passing, she was working as Operational Manager at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town.
She has served as Branch Chairperson of Groote Schuur Hospital for several years. In 2010 she was elected the Deputy Chairperson of the Metropole region, and also served as Regional Bargaining Chairperson. In 2014 she was elected Provincial Deputy Chairperson.  At the time of her passing, she was also serving as Provincial Bargaining Chairperson, as well as the Treasurer of COSATU Kraainfontein local.
DENOSA sends out its sincere and deepest heartfelt condolences to the Beukes family and particularly thank them for releasing cde Marilyn Beukes to do the work of DENOSA in the Western Cape. We also send our heartfelt condolences and messages of strength to the DENOSA family in the Western Cape, and especially the POBs who are still reeling in the experience of losing one of their comrades at such a crucial time of the nurses’ struggle.
DENOSA is honoured and humbled to have had cde Marilyn Beukes as its leader in her lifetime, a cadre who spent sleepless nights on the road serving the organisation with distinction until the last minute of her life.
DENOSA will update its family and nursing fraternity about the developments and logistical arrangements as soon as they are finalized.
May her humble Soul Rest in Peace.
