DENOSA KZN to hold its 8th Provincial Congress at Protea Hotel in Durban from 16 to 18 January

The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) in KwaZulu-Natal will be holding its 8th Provincial Congress from 16 to 18 January at Protea Hotel in Durban where it will review the progress made over the four-year term to date. The congress will also be electing provincial office bearers to lead the term until 2022.

The challenges facing nurses in the province will top the agenda of the congress, including the issue of post- community service nurses who are not employed as yet; safety concerns as witnessed in the recent spate of attacks of health workers in the workplace, the severe shortage of staff and equipment in many health facilities. The socio-economic well-being of health workers will also feature prominently at the congress, and so will the issues on nursing education and continuous professional development opportunities.

DENOSA President, Simon Hlungwani, will deliver the keynote address at the congress on Day Two (17 January). 
To deliver messages of support at the congress on Day Two are:

- eThekwini Mayor, Zandile Gumede
- COSATU Provincial Secretary, Edwin Mkhize
- SACP (POB TBC)
- ANC (POB TBC) 
- MEC of Health: Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo

Furthermore, to deliver presentations at the congress include South African Nursing Council (SANC) on CPDs for nurses as well as on the new curriculum. Director of Nursing Services at KZN Department of Health: Mrs Sosibo will also deliver a presentation, and so will Chief Director of HRD in the Department of Health, Mr Mthembu.
