DENOSA Gauteng cautions the new Minister of Health and the public to desist from making premature conclusions on the Mamelodi hospital incident
Press statement

The Democratic Nursing Organization of South Africa (DENOSA) in Gauteng cautions the newly appointed Minister of Health, Dr Zweli Mkhize, and the public to desist from formulating premature conclusion on the Mamelodi Hospital matter.
DENOSA Gauteng acknowledges the seriousness of the matter and understands the public outrage. However we must always be cautious not to have predetermined outcomes on issues that still need proper investigations.
We welcome the posture taken by the MEC of Health in Gauteng, Dr Bandile Masuku, in not formulating a position on the matter before investigations are conducted. The minister and the public can draw lessons from the MEC in this regard and not fall into the trap of being media darlings in such situations like the former minister of health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi.
DENOSA Gauteng supports fully the call for an investigation into the matter and for appropriate action to be taken where necessary. This incident should also be used as an opportunity to train security officers working in health facilities on Batho Pele principles and restraining of patients without using force and taking into consideration the rights of patients because currently securities are restraining patients without being trained in the area.
Furthermore, security guards must be taught not to restrain patients in the absence of nurses or doctors. They must restrain patients under the supervision and presence of nurses or doctors.
