DENOSA welcomes President Ramaphosa's announcement in curbing further spread of COVID-19 infections this festive season
Media statement
Tuesday, 29 December 2020
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) welcomes the announcement made by President in curbing further spread of COVID-19 this festive season, which will save the lives of many family members and those of healthcare workers.
That over 41 000 healthcare workers have since been infected in both first and second waves is calamous to say the least. That more than 430 healthcare workers have been infected in the second wave alone is indicative of the disastrous position the healthcare workers have been placed in due to this pandemic.
DENOSA special tribute to the more than 400 healthcare workers who succumbed to the virus and calls for protection for those who remain on the service line as many of them are quarantined.
DENOSA agrees that adjusted Level 3 Lockdown restrictions aim to lower super spreader events and to decrease unsafe interactions between people.
We are particularly happy with the prohibition of sale of alcohol at retailers and for indoor consumption, as incidents out of these have led to a sizable increase in emergencies at our healthcare facilities.
This decision will result in fewer trauma cases and thus open up bed space for Covid-related admissions.
DENOSA would like to plead with many South Africans to think of this decision as a gesture of appreciation of human life than a punitive decision.
