Limpopo celebrate International Nurses Day

By Kwena Manamela, Provincial Secretary in Limpopo

Limpopo Province celebrated the International Nurses Day on 08 May 2013 at the Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane where 1000 nurses converged to celebrate this important day in the calendar of nurses.

The theme for 2013, “Closing the Gap, Millennium Development Goals”, seemed too relevant for International Nurses Day celebrations in Limpopo. Reaching the goals by 2015 is a mammoth task with target dates swiftly coming closer.

It is only if all efforts are coordinated as a country that we will meet or come closer to meeting set targets especially on those goals related to health, i.e. goals 4, 5, and 6.

Limpopo celebrated the day in style this year, with different stakeholders participating, in DENOSA and other labour organisations, Medi-Clinic and Health Department. Healthy preparations led to the success of the day, in particular generous contributions by Medi- Clinic, Department of Health, not to mention a star performance by DENOSA delegation from both the province and national level.

Speaker after speaker appreciated the unity displayed and wished that the model be adopted and continued every year. Senior officials from all participating stakeholders graced the event with their presence.

The national deployee, President, Dorothy Matebeni, spiced the day which we hope and believe that it will leave a lasting legacy in Limpopo.
