DENOSA message on the passing on of MaMbeki

Media statement

Monday, 09 June 2014

The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) would like to convey its sincere condolence to the Mbeki family and the community of Ngcingwane in Dutywa for the death of their mother and freedom fighter, Epainette Mbeki.

DENOSA would like to thank her for her tremendous work of building communities behind the scenes in the rural areas like Dutywa, where she remained an icon and a source of inspiration to community members.

DENOSA had remained inspired by MaMbeki’s energy and her active involvement in community activities despite her age until her falling to sickness.

Her toughness and outspokenness on many pertinent national socio-economic and political issues exemplified her commitment and fearlessness in seeing a better South Africa.

The fact that she was the second black woman to join the Communist Party of South Africa in 1937 bears testimony to the openness of her mind on her earlier course to see a free South Africa at a time when it was most dangerous to make such a bold decision.
