DENOSA Statement post - The Launch of SA Public Service Union

Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) is noting the launch of the new South African Public Service Union (SAPSU). However, DENOSA is dismayed by the claim made by the former president of South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (SADTU), comrade Thobile Ntola that they had engaged DENOSA on formation of the new public service union. DENOSA would like to categorically distance itself from the formation of this public sector union. DENOSA can confirm that it has never been consulted and it is not party to the formation of a public sector union as reported. In the lack of a better word, this is misrepresentation of facts in part of DENOSA.

Our limited understanding as DENOSA is that, this formation of the public sector union emanates from challenges that COSATU is currently experiencing.

DENOSA has a position on this matter and our position is as follows:

  • DENOSA is calling for the National Special Congress (NSP) of COSATU.
  • DENOSA is supporting the re-instatement of NUMSA in order to ensure that workers are united in one basket.
  • DENOSA will fight inside and outside COSATU to ensure unity of the working class.

The formation of a new public sector union will be defeating the same principle of uniting the workers of our country.

In conclusion, DENOSA cannot condone the activities and actions that are not assisting the current situation in the federation. DENOSA appreciates the intervention processes that are put in place to resolve the challenges that COSATU is facing.

END
