DENOSA Gauteng disturbed by unavailability of basic medication like cough mixture in Gauteng health facilities since August 2016
Press release
08 March 2017
The Democratic Nursing Organization of South Africa (DENOSA) in Gauteng is deeply disturbed by the unavailability of the cough mixture in Gauteng health institutions since August 2016, in particular at Sizwe TB Hospital where this is basic need for the coughing TB patients.
It is a disgrace that the provincial Department of Health doesn’t have such a basic necessity for patients whereas they are the second biggest beneficiary of the budget of the province. This clearly demonstrates the incapacity of the department to prioritise and deliver well on its primary mandate.
We call on the MEC of health as a medical practitioner herself to follow up and solve this matter personally. This clearly demonstrates that the procurement division of the department of health is not competent and we also call for an investigation into the matter as it borders on the rights of patient to get quality patient care.
This is unacceptable, especially for a department that is funded adequately. DENOSA Gauteng condemns this incompetence in the strongest possible terms and we will be engaging with the MEC of health tomorrow to sort out this matter.
