DENOSA Limpopo leads nurses to 5-hour training at professional gym

In its continued campaign to fight against obesity among nurses, DENOSA Limpopo collaborated with Virgin Active Limpopo on 5 September where more than 60 health workers from Polokwane Hospital and Medi Clinic were released to partake on a 5-hour long exercise session.

DENOSA Provincial Secretary in Limpopo and an avid Marathon runner, Kwena Manamela, said he hopes this initiative continues on a regular basis. The nurses were taken through their paces by the staff at Virgin Active in Polokwane in what could be a start of a healthy relationship between the gym and health workers from the two hospitals.

With the country the leading nation with obesity and overweight, especially among its adults, nurses were shown around the facility.

Some nurses were so unimpressed with their fitness levels that they opted to sign for the gym so they could attend training every day. Manamela said he wished most medical aids could forge healthy relationships with training facilities as a way to inculcate a healthy lifestyle so that nurses could get an opportunity to train whenever time allows for it.
