Ithemba Nursing School celebrates international Nurses Day

Ithemba Nursing College celebrated International Nurses Day at Shepered Church in Eesterrus, Pretoria on Monday 25 May. It was held under the theme: 'Nurses: A Force for Change: Care Effective, Cost Effective.

Nurses and student nurses were hailed for the great work they continue to do and were encouraged to keep the lamp burning for those in great need.

Principal at the college, Ms Chabedi, gave examples of where nurses excel in their work in the health system. "If you look at those leading us at instiutions and department, such as CEOs of hospitals, nurses are the ones occupying the highest positions," she said.

Delegates were urged to change the attitude and conditions that patients are being treated under for better, so that community members could respect the profession.

The celebration, which was attended by more than 100 student nurses, lecturers and nurses, also paid tribute to a late student, Brian, who was a student representative who lost his life recently. He was praised as a potential leader who was open and inspirational.

Nurses were urged to raise their heads up in confidence, as they make a huge difference to humanity at the time of most need.
