DENOSA leaders pledged unity of purpose at pre-launch gala dinner

DENOSA held 20th anniversary pre-launch gala dinner at DENOSA Head Office on Friday night on 16 September in Pretoria.
Guests at the event included former leaders of the organisation, South African Nursing Council (SANC), FUNDISA, PSI, COSATU and sponsors Old Mutual.
SANC acting registrar has wished DENOSA well. She was honest and said “SANC is also ailing. DENOSA needs to also become a professional body that has assisted in producing professors over the years.”
FUNDISA's Professor Mulaudzi wishes Denosa well and said the nursing profession needs both DENOSA and SANC. She said she does not think she would have become a professor if it had not been for DENOSA.
DENOSA Acting General Secretary, Oscar Phaka, called on former leaders to come closer to the organisation. “The truth of the matter is that, yes your baby is well. But you have left your baby very early. It still needs your guidance, and now it needs you more than ever before."
COSATU President, Sdumo Dlamini, congratulated DENOSA on its 20-year journey and pledged COSATU’s support to DENOSA, and said the federation will stay side by side it. “We know exactly what you are doing. You are uniting nurses of this country. We will support you. I will also inform the CEC and report to COSATU about the wonderful work you are doing.”
DENOSA President, Simon Hlungwani, acknowledged the sacrifices that the leaders had to make, often at the expense of their families. He said all leaders endured the unbearable pressures and emotional abuses which tested their resilience.
Former leaders, Professor Philda Nzimande, Thembeka Gwagwa, and Ephraim Mafalo, all agreed that the unity of purpose is what drove them to the ultimate goal of forming the organisation at the time when organizing and mobilizing against the then status quo was made extremely hard by laws.
The official national celebration will be held in Pretoria on 5 December, where nurses from across the country will converge to celebrate the baby that was conceived there 20 years ago.
