DENOSA hands over memorandum of demands to SANC

DENOSA handed over a list of memorandums of demands to the South African Nursing Council outside the South African Nursing Council (SANC) offices on 22 February.

The South African Nursing Council was the last stop where a memorandum of demands was to be delivered at. SANC board chairperson, Professor Bhengu and Acting SANC Registrar, Sizo Mchunu, accepted the memorandum , which listed a number of issues that DENOSA said are affecting nurses and need urgent attention. DENOSA General Secretary, Oscar Phaka, read the memorandum and said nurses are disadvantaged by a number of things at SANC. “There is a nurse who paid R550 as she thought the fees had not changed. That nurse was strucked off the roll, and that is not fair!”  Phaka said SANC must sort its issues, or else no nurse will pay their fees this year for next year.

DENOSA President, Simon Hlungwani, said SANC must intervene and respond to the memorandum within seven days, and failure to respond will force DENOSA to marshall all nurses into occupying the SANC offices until a response is received.

Professor Bhengu accepted the memorandum and said the Council will read the memorandum and respond to DENOSA.
