Subsequent to the national march that DENOSA held yesterday to the Department of Health and SANC, DENOSA hereby confirms that its national office bearers are scheduled to meet with Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi at the Department of Health offices in Pretoria on Monday morning on 27 February 2017 to discuss matters contained in the memorandum that was handed over yesterday.
Thousands of nurses and health workers took to the streets of Pretoria on 22 February to hand over memorandums of demands to the Department of Health and the South African Nursing Council (SANC) offices over deteriorating conditions in health facilities where they are working and the need for SANC to open offices in provinces as a matter of urgency among many others. The march gave both offices seven working days to respond to the memorandums.
Health Minister was in Parliament attending the Budget Speech by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan. Government Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, Dr Nonhlanhla Makhanya, accepted the memorandum by DENOSA on behalf of the minister and promised to bring it to the attention of the minister as soon as he returns to Pretoria. A day after the event, the communique from the Department, invited DENOSA leaders to a meeting with the minister on 27 February was received.
The SANC memorandum was accepted by SANC board chairperson, Professor Bhengu, who was accompanied by Acting CEO/Registrar, Sizo Mchunu. Professor Bhengu said the Council will read the memorandum and revert back to the DENOSA.
