LATEST UPDATE ON PUBLIC SECTOR WAGE NEGOTIATIONS

Dear DENOSA member.

This is to give the latest update on the wage negotiations.

The negotiations were concluded on Friday night (18 May 2018) as the offer was accepted by majority parties from both Cosatu and ILC.

Parties were still to meet on Monday 21 May to finalise the agreement by signing. However, unions like DENOSA were still embarked on the feedback process with their members. Government signed the offer on Monday 21 May. DENOSA is to convene a bargaining forum meeting on Wednesday and recommend to the NEC, a process that will take place this week.

In Summary, the latest development is that the employer has acceded to the unions’ demand for Housing Allowance to be delinked (both married couple to receive the housing allowance each) to start this year and not in July 2019 for salary levels 1 - 5 (ENAs and ENs covered). According the draft agreement, payment of the delinked housing allowance will therefore start on 1 September 2018. Salary levels 6 - 12 (PNs included) will commence in September 2019.

There was no further move on the salary adjustments.

The issues on Danger Allowance and OSD have been put to a separate negotiation that must be concluded within 3 months after this agreement has enjoyed majority.
