DENOSA PEC leaders meet Health MEC in Bisho

DENOSA Eastern Cape Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) members met with the MEC of Health in the province, Helen August-Sauls in Bisho on 21 August as part of ongoing stakeholder engagement between labour representatives and Health Department in the province

The DENOSA delegation was led by Provincial Secretary, Khaya Sodidi, and Acting Provincial Chairperson, Zanele Mdliva. Issues under discussion during the meeting included the introduction of both parties to each other since the appointment of MEC August into the Health portfolio in May, as well as Positive Practice Environment (PPE) campaign which encompasses all challenges that nurses are faced with in the province.

Sodidi said the meeting went very well as the MEC was very welcoming and warmed up to the campaign that both parties had to collaborate on going forward. The PPE campaign calls for fulfillment of 8 pillars in a healthcare setting:

  • Safety

  • Payment

  • Resources

  • Equipment

  • Education

  • Support

  • Supplies

  • Respect

The engagements between the department and DENOSA will be ongoing, both parties have expressed.
