DENOSA Free State Congress kicks off in Ventersburg

It was all systems go as the DENOSA Free State 8th Provincial Congress got off to a good start on 23 January at Aldam Resort and Conference Centre in Ventersburg in the Free State.

The Congress, with 48 voting delegates from the province's 5 regions, was graced by the presence of DENOSA President, Simon Hlungwani, Acting Deputy General Secretary, Dimakatso Sebopa.

The congress was addressed on Day 1 by SACP Provincial Secretary, Bheki Stofile, and ANC Provincial Chairperson, Sam Mashinini, both of whom delivered messages of support to the congress as alliance partners.

Stofile was bold in emphasizing that the only way the working class can survive the current socio-political climate was only under the reconfigured alliance, in line with the recent resolution of the SACP's Congress.

He warned of the increasing inequalities based on the policies that have not been adopted by the alliance, such as the BEE which had come to benefit the few elite.

Sam Mashinini called for unity within DENOSA and urged shop stewards to make DENOSA stronger. He acknowledged that there are many problems with the healthcare system in the province, especially the shortage of nurses.

Expected to address the congress on Day 2 are COSATU and Sandi. DENOSA President will deliver the keynote address.
