DENOSA launches the Albertina Sisulu Excellence Award at its congress

DENOSA launched the Albertina Sisulu Leadership Excellence Award last night, which will take place annually towards the end of the year.

The award will recognise nurses who, in the course of their work, have shown outstanding leadership qualities.

This is the type of a nurse who, just like mama Sisulu, is not able to keep quiet when there is structural injustice in the workplace that stands in the way from doing their work.

The awards will be done annually, starting with provinces.

The grand daughter of Albertina Sisulu paid a touching tribute to her grand mother who was so passionate about her profession - nursing - that at some stage she had to choose the profession over personal matters.

She asked the delegates at the DENOSA Congress what is it that nurses of today are prepared to sacrifice at this time when they are operating in an environment that is far better than the time of mama Sisulu, who rose through the ranks of nursing.
