Update on arbitration regarding salary increment for public servants

Dear DENOSA member.

Parties met on 22 June at PSCBC at 10h00 for a pre-arbitration meeting regarding the implementation of Resolution 1 of 2018, Clause 3.3.

DENOSA, SADTU and POPCRU were represented by Senior Counsels, Mr NH Maenetje and Mr PS Masilo.

The employer representatives requested to do a presentation that they did during conciliation on their economic outlook and pleaded to engage with Labour on their previous proposals presented during conciliation (i.e. that the wage bill had become unaffordable). Labour did not accede to their request and insisted that the employer should comply with the Resolution as agreed and signed.

The employer requested that the arbitration should be postponed, but our Legal representation refuted the request.

Parties agreed that the next date of Arbitration shall be the 7th and 8th July 2020.

Regarding the employer’s intention to ask for the postponement, the Commissioner advised them to make a formal application and they said they can only do that on the 26th of June 2020, submit answering affidavit on the 1st of July 2020, and then Labour representatives shall send their answering affidavit on the 3rd of July 2020 and the 6th July 2020 parties should submit their closing arguments and then the ruling of the Commissioner shall be issued by the 6th July 2020.
