DENOSA President, Health MEC, and Tripartite Alliance partners to address the congressโ€ฆ

KIMBERLEY โ€“ The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) in Northern Cape will be convening its 9th Elective Provincial Congress between 27 and 29 November 2024 at the Desert Palace Hotel and Casino in Upington, where shortage of staff, skills drought, poor working conditions and other health issues that affect both communities and nurses will be under the microscope for the duration of the congress.

The congress will be held under the theme: “Promoting Organisational Growth Through Innovative Practices Towards a Resilient Quality Healthcare and Effective Member Servicing.”

Joining the delegates from all the regions of the province at the congress will be DENOSA President, Simon Hlungwani, who will deliver the keynote address.

The MEC of Health, Maruping Lekwene; HOD of the Department of Health, Mxolisi Mlatha; ANC, SACP, and SANCO will also address the congress on Day One on the issues that affect health service delivery in the province and the solutions.

The congress will take stock of the challenges that have characterized the healthcare services in the province, which include:

– Compromised security in healthcare facilities and constant attacks of healthcare workers in the workplace.

– Gross shortage of staff in healthcare facilities.

– The state of readiness of the province for the National Health Insurance (NHI).

– The continued reduction of funding in health.

– Challenges of access to critical healthcare services in the province like mental healthcare.

– The continued non-intake of student nurses at the Henrietta Stockdale Nursing College for at least four years.

– The effects of the nursing education curriculum change on both nursing and patients.

The congress will also elect the new leaders to lead DENOSA in the province for the next four years.
