DENOSA will be hosting a Two-Day 4th BRICS Nursing Conference, on 21 and 22 October 2026, at the Emperor’s Palace in Kempton Park.
On the sidelines of this BRICS Nursing Conference will be a BRICS Nursing Forum Meeting, to be attended by government leaders from the BRICS nations as well as leaders from national nursing associations (NNAs), nursing regulation authorities as well as leaders from the education sectors from these countries.
DENOSA will be representing South Africa at these engagements, alongside National Department of Health (NDoH), South African Nursing Council (SANC), and Forum of University Nursing Deans of South Africa (FUNDISA).
More than 157 Abstracts have been submitted for presentation at the conference by nurses from South Africa, Brazil, Russia, India, and China, including different countries in Africa.
Both Health Ministry in South Africa, as well as Gauteng provincial government are expected to be part of this event, which will discuss key pertinent health and nursing systems and challenges in the BRICS nations and beyond, under four key areas:
- Strengthening Nursing and Midwifery Practice.
- Ethics, Digital Sovereignty, and AI Integration in Nursing.
- Clinical Nursing Excellence and Inclusive Care.
- Integration of Indigenous Knowledge in Nursing and Midwifery Practice.
Both the Meeting and the Conference will take place at the time when the world, including BRICS nations, is experiencing systemic challenges in nursing, including a global nursing workforce shortage that is likely to reach catastrophic levels by 2030 if countries do not increase their productions by at least 8% annually.
South Africa alone is facing even steeper challenges of nurses shortage, that over half of its current nursing workforce is about to retire in the next four to 14 years at the time when global superpowers have lowered their production levels and are tending to rely on recruiting nursing workforce robustly from the low- to mid-income countries like South Africa.
Members of the media will be invited to this all-important event.
We hope many of you will be part of this event in 20 days’ time.
End.
