Celebrating 30 years of uniting nurses

DENOSA Deputy President and Health MEC to address Northern Cape nurses at International Nurses Day event in Kimberley on 15 May 2026.

KIMBERLEY – The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Afrixa (DENOSA) and the Northern Cape Department of Health will be co-hosting the International Nurses Day (IND) event for the nurses of the province at the Horse Shoe Hotel in Kimberley on 15 May 2026 at 08h30 am.

This year’s IND is held under the theme: Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives.

The theme calls for the recognition of the nurses’ contribution to saving lives and supporting the global economic growth, but also calls on governments to give nurses fair working conditions, fair compensation, leadership roles, continuous professional development opportunities and bigger influence.

DENOSA 2nd Deputy President, Linah Jiyane, will deliver the keynote message of the IND from the International Council of Nurses (ICN); While MEC of Health in the province, Nontobeko Vilakazi, will address the nurses on their special day.

Also expected to attend the event are the Executive Mayor of Sol Platjie Municipality; and the Head of the Department of Health.

The Northern Cape is faced with a number of challenges, key amongst which are the gross shortages of nursing workforce, low production of nurses by higher education institutions.

These, and many others have become a serious barrier of access to quality and adequately responsive healthcare services for communities and patients in the province.
