DENOSA congratulates its President for his election as Vice-President of Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation (CNMF) at its meeting in India.
PRETORIA – The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) congratulates its current President, Simon Hlungwani, for his election as the Vice-President of the Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation (CNMF), which took place at the CNMF 27th Biennial Meeting of Members on 23 September 2026 at the TNAI Greater Noida Campus in New Delhi, India.
CNMF is the federation of nurses and midwives associations from the 53 Commonwealth countries, and whose purpose is to influence health policy and develop nursing and midwifery capacity across the Commonwealth.
The Meeting of Members, which elected leaders of CNMF, precedes the 7th Commonwealth Nurses and Midwives Federation Conference that is scheduled for 24 and 25 September 2026 at the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi, India.
DENOSA views President Hlungwani’s election as an affirmation of his mature leadership pedigree, which is surely going to benefit global health decision-making entities such as the World Health Organization (WHO), International Council of Nurses (ICN), and World Bank amongst others, as they work and interact closely with CNMF on nursing and health policy issues globally.
DENOSA is confident that his participation at the health and nursing policy-making level, with his first-hand experience of health system challenges in Africa, will stand him in good stead.
As DENOSA, which will be celebrating its 30 years of existence in December this year, we are happy that like-minded organisations are also benefiting from the fruits of the organisation’s maturity, because its own growth has been realised through the nurturing by organisations like the CNMF.
When DENOSA was formed on 5 December 1996, part of its vision was to integrate back to international nursing community so that the voice of South African nurses, which had been limited by the oppressive apartheid laws, could be echoed at international stages.
We wish him all the best in his new global responsibility.
