Celebrating 27 years of uniting nurses

DENOSA hosts Botswana Nurses Union at its head offices in Pretoria.

The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) hosted its sister organisation in the neighbouring country Botswana, the Botswana Nurses Union (BONU), at the DENOSA Head Office in Pretoria on 29 February.

Part of the visit by BONU was the exchange of information and ideas on nursing matters between the two countries, as well as both regionally and internationally. With both South Africa and Botswana being the two of the SADC’s and Africa’s thriving economies, both countries share similar challenges when it comes to nursing and nurses. Above all, both countries share similar ambitions to be serious global players when it comes to championing nursing matters at global platforms.

The Botswana delegation of four leaders was welcomed by DENOSA President, Simon Hlungwani, General Secretary, Kwena Manamela, former DENOSA General Secretary and former ICN Board Member for Africa, Thembeka Gwagwa, and Marketing and International Relations Manager, Heather Sam.

As part of the meeting, both organisations exchanged information and knowledge on hosting significant health and nursing events on the African continent, including reflections on the 2009 International Council of Nurses (ICN) Congress, which was held in Durban, South Africa.
