“Whose economy are we talking about here, when many workers are languishing in poverty and earning less than they are spending on public transport?”
This was the answer from COSATU President, Zingiswa Losi, when asked about the potential disruption of the COSATU National Stay Away to the country’s economy.
Losi and other COSATU national leaders were briefing the media at the COSATU House about the upcoming National Stay Away on 24 August against unemployment, fuel hikes, budget cuts, investment strike and austerity measures among others.

COSATU called on workers to take part in the day of action by joining the workers on the activities in provinces.

COSATU General Secretary, Bheki Ntshalintshali, urged the workers to join the stay away, adding that COSATU was busy mobilizing workers in provinces. Yesterday, COSATU was mobilizing workers in Gauteng. On 18 August, the federation was in the Free State. On 19 August, it is expected to be in Durban, KZN.
