MEDIA ALERT
Tuesday, 16 May 2023.
HUNDREDS of nurses from various facilities and from all the districts of the province of KwaZulu-Natal will converge on Empangeni in the King Cetshwayo District on Tuesday, 16 May 2023, as both DENOSA and the Department of Health will co-host the International Nurses Day event for the nurses of the province at Ngwelezane Hospital.
With this year’s International Nurses Day held under the theme: “Our Nurses. Our Future,” the event will commence at 09h00, and will be addressed by both DENOSA President, Simon Hlungwani, and the MEC of Health, Nomagugu Simelane.
As part of this year’s theme, the governments and employers are urged by the International Council of Nurses (ICN) to value, protect, respect and invest in nurses as a way to address the healthcare systems around the world and turn the health systems towards readiness for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) as gross shortage of nurses (estimated to be at 13 million by year 2030 globally), resources, equipment and poor support to nurses and healthcare workers besiege the healthcare systems and drive many nurses from poorer countries to developed countries.
Members of the media are invited to attend this prestigious event and report the voice of nurses over the many challenges in the healthcare system.
