DENOSA in Gauteng to brief media on Sunday on its Programme of Action in response to the Department’s instigation…

JOHANNESBURG – The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa (DENOSA) in Gauteng strongly condemns the inhumane and heartless conduct meted against nurses by the Gauteng Department of Health where young nurses have not been paid for close to a quarter of the year for the nursing services they rendered to the department.

Young Nurses doing mandatory Community Service under the employment of the Gauteng Department of Health continue to suffer indignity and prejudice meted against them by the Gauteng department of health, which has not paid their salaries for more than three months now. This is despite having several engagements with the department and bringing the matter to the attention of the premier of the province, Mr. David Makhura.

This department not only fails to pay salaries of these young nurses, but is currently actively planning huge retrenchments of nurses in a province that is engulfed by huge shortages of nurses and great health demands. This clearly shows that we are dealing with confused leadership in this provincial government, which indicates left but turns right. How will this government justify the retrenchments they are planning while their own NDP document speaks about hiring more health workers in order to realise NHI and meet the health demands of this province?

As a response to this continuous disdain and instigation by the Gauteng Department of Health, DENOSA in Gauteng will brief the media on Sunday 03 July 2022 where it will release evidence to the public on why we have concluded that this department hates nurses and is not ashamed to end the youth month by hurting young people by not paying them their long overdue salaries.

At the briefing, DENOSA will be outlining its Programme of Action in defence of the young nurses who are subjected to slavery by the department.
